Gardener grows 6 foot courgette

A grandfather was stunned when his back garden was taken over by giant SIX FOOT courgettes - and they are still growing. Luca Antonio Puopolo, 72, was given a few courgette seeds from a friend and planted them "for fun" in February. Every morning when he went to water on the courgettes, Mr Puopolo was amazed to see they had grown five or six inches. Mr Puopolo swears he has only given the mighty veg - which dwarf him at 5ft 6in tall - water and puts their impressive growth down to a sunny British summer. Average courgettes are eight inches long making these lanky specimens - which are as tall as David Beckham - nine times as long as they should be. Mr Puopolo had to take a glass windowpane out of the side of his greenhouse because the vine from the courgette plant had run out of space to grow.
