Grateful James Byne, 29, cut off his left thumb as he was sawing through a piece of wood last December. Surgeons desperately tried to sew it back on but the blood would not start flowing again despite months of treatment including using leeches. The father-of-one thought he would be left without his crucial digit - until doctors suggested fitting his left TOE to his hand instead.
