Time to upgrade my audio a bit. So how did I do it? Well, with the sweet Zoom H1 recorder. The Zooms main competitors were the Rode Videomic Pro Stereo and the Zoom H2n. I went with the Zoom H1 over the Rode because it was less than half the cost of the Rode and more versatile (it can be placed anywhere as opposed to just being mounted on the camera). I chose the H1 over the H2n because the H2n, while it has way more features (and some are very sweet), it cost almost double and I didnt seen any way to mount it to my t4i with a shockmount. You can mount it, but with what shockmount? Anyway, I found a very nice Rode shockmount for $40 which seemed like a pretty good deal and while its made for Rode shotgun mics, the H1 fits nicely into it. So there you have it. I chose the H1 for its size, price and versatility and for the f that I found a nice shockmount so that I can have it on my DSLR. I bought the $25 accessory pack with a windscreen, USB cable, AC adapter, small tripod, boom mic accessory and case. So for $165, I got a LOT. And its a major upgrade over the regular camera mic. Check it out.
