Joann + The Dakota is a good-timey family band out of Louisville, Kentucky. With an eclectic blend of rock, folk and pop, pinning down an exact genre is a bit of a challenge and ultimately unnecessary because it's music and everyone should play whatever the heck they feel! In 2016 and 2017, Joann + The Dakota was nominated for Louisville Music Awards in both the Folk and Americana categories.
Joann began playing guitar in 1995 and started writing songs in 1998. After playing with many people in different incarnations of bands over the years, Joann + The Dakota formed in 2013 with Joann Jene on vocals and rhythm guitar, Lyle Edward on lead guitar and vocals, Jason Sturgill on bass, Nick Stinnett on drums, and Megan Bridges on keyboard, percussion and vocals.
The band is known for their energetically eccentric and psychedelic live performances, which often include lights, puppets and lots of stuffed animals. Getting weird and getting wild are of the utmost importance to the band and their biggest hope is for everyone to join in with them because we are all here to have fun and enjoy the only time we know we have for sure - right now!
