Panchayat polls were held in West Bengal today in the shadow of what has been described by many as unprecedented violence. At least 8 people were killed and more than 50 injured. There were bomb attacks at polling booths at many places. Voters complained that they were not being allowed to enter the booths to cast their votes. In others goons stormed polling booths and tried to stamp ballot papers.
