Majkl Express: Best Onion Rings recipe
Majkl shows in this video how to make the best onion rings. What makes a good onion ring is the taste of the batter and the crunchiness of the ring. The recipe is very simple, so just go ahead and try it.\r
1 large onion cut into 3/4 cm slices\r
150 g all-purpose flour\r
1 teaspoon of baking powder\r
1 teaspoon of garlic powder\r
1 teasponn of paprika (sweet or spicy upto you)\r
1 teaspoon of salt\r
1 egg\r
250 ml milk\r
75 g of Panko, or breadcrumbs\r
\r
For frying, you will need 1 litre of sunflower oil.\r
\r
Recipe:\r
Pour the oil into a pan, oil should be about 3 cm high in the pan. Preheat to 175 C, you will know that the oil is ready for frying, when you put a wood stick into the oil, and small bubbles start forming around the wood stick. On my stove, I set the heat to level 7 (9 is the maximum heat level on my stove). \r
\r
In one bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, paprika. Mix well.\r
In a second bowl, mix egg and milk. Mix well.\r
Take a third bowl, and add the panko or breadcrumbs to it.\r
Cut the onion into 3/4 cm thick slices. The inner rings of the onion (about 3 cm diameter) put aside as the rings will be too small, use in another dish.\r
The rest of the slice, take apart into rings and dip them into the flour mixture, making sure that they are well cover on all sides. Put rings on a wood board.\r
Add the milk and egg mixture to the flour mixures. Mix well. Now you have a batter.\r
Add the onion rings to the batter, cover from all sides. I use a set of 2 forks for this step. Let the batter drip from the ring and add to the ring to the breadcrumbs. cover from all sides with another set of 2 folks. \r
Drop gently the covered ring into the hot oil. Frying should take about 2 minutes. Make sure to turn the onion rings on both sides. When onion ring is gold in color, remove from frying pan with a wooden chop stick and put on a wire rack with kitchen towels to soak the extra oil.\r
\r
Making the dip:\r
You will need:\r
2 large table spoons of sour cream\r
2 large table spoons of mayonaise\r
juice of half a lime\r
1 tablespoon of ketchup\r
1 teaspoon of sriracha sauce\r
1 dash of worcestershire sauce\r
1 small teaspoon of salt\r
optional: 1 teaspoon of cayene pepper or ground chilli peppers\r
\r
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and you are ready to serve.\r
\r
Bon Appetit!
