The Blossoms - That's When The Tears Start

"That's When The Tears Start" - One of my all time favourite records. The legendary Darlene Love led the Blossoms, having first had a spectacular solo career with Phil Spector in the early Sixties. The Blossoms were a Motownesque group of girl backing singers, for many Sixties TV shows, often actually backing up the original Motown acts themselves for shows like "Shindig". They recorded this Van McCoy Northern Soul anthem for Reprise Records in 1967. In 1989 I covered it with The Velvelettes for Motorcity. Darlene carried on recording, having the awesome Phil Spector 1970s production "Lord If You're A Woman", which was also a massive Northern Soul monster. I was flabbergasted at how sincere and helpful and cooperative and utterly wonderful that Darlene was to re-record and film this wonderful gem, especially as she had also become a very successful actress, appearing in all four "Lethal Weapon" films. She was in London with her sister Barbara, also one of the original Blossoms, so the opportunity to film the group for "The Strange World Of Northern Soul' was just priceless, and so very much appreciated.
