The Shirelles feat. Shirley Alston - Last Minute Miracle

Here is another Northern Soul smash from my documentary "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". Shirley Alston was the legendary lead singer of classic girl group The Shirelles, and here she recreates her biggest ever Northern Soul hit, "Last Minute Miracle", written and produced by the wonderful George Kerr. The group eventually became known as Shirley and The Shirelles, when they moved from Scepter to Bell, before all the girls went their own ways, with Shirley ceasing to appear with the other original members. She was a pleasure and a joy to work with and on this recreation of this classic song. A song which I put on the first album I ever compiled, way back in 1974, called "Solid Soul Sensations" for Pye Records. And for trivia buffs, out of the entire 131 songs on "The Strange World Of Northern Soul", this was the very very first one to be filmed. This record first broke in 1973 at the legendary Highland Room in Blackpool Mecca. It was a piece of Motownesque joyful exuberance on the Sceptre label and was a fine piece of Northern Soul you could ever wish to hear.
Our massive massive documentary is about the entire history of the Northern Soul scene, which contains 131 specially recorded performances of all the classics.
