Do you have trouble sleeping? Insomnia is very common and you are not alone. However, poor sleep quality can lead to health problems. Having insomnia can make you up to 5 times more likely to have health issues. And at least 50% of people with chronic pain have problems sleeping, with some research suggesting that up to 80-90% of people with chronic pain have issues with sleep. Hi this is Dana Ranahan from Body Works Sports Physiotherapy in North Vancouver and we’re out enjoying this lovely day. One of the things I want to talk to you about today is sleep and the quality of sleep and how that relates to health and recovery from injury. So now with the daylight savings change, I’ve heard a lot of stories about people having trouble adjusting and getting enough sleep. So I’ve done some research on this and found out that people who have trouble with sleep or have insomnia, have about five times more likelihood to have some kind of general health issue and of course, we deal with people with pain, so they also suggest that people with chronic pain have 50%, sometimes up to 90% of people with chronic pain, have trouble with sleep. So sleep is very important in terms of recovery and your health. So whether it’s recovering from a physical injury which what we deal with here or other general health issues. So we’re going to be posting some tips for you on our social media this week to try to help you improve your sleep quality and hopefully help your improve your health.
