Quilting Your Dance Tutu

Ms. Emily Adams video-instructing how to quilt the girls dance tutus so that the layers stay together as the dancers jump during a performance. Use blunt-end needle (tapestry or needlepoint type) and White Embroidery Floss (six strand DMC brand for example) Cut the embroidery floss into manageable lengths and separate into two-strand sections. You want to steam the tutu prior to your needlework. The first work on the video is on the lower layers (underside) --- so work with the tutu upside down. You will be hand-tying and knotting at the beginning and ending of your quilting basting style stitching.leaving enough slack in the running stitches so that the tuille netting will not tear during movement, keeping the layers connected but loose enough to flow. The tacking of the upper layers (see video) is hand-tying small knots, alternated between top two layers and second and third layers of tutu. resembling zigzag or star pattern around the inner and outer circumference of the tutu.
