6. Mount Rushmore- This well known American landmark and tourist attrion was named after American businessman Charles Rushmore in the late 1800s. However, it wasnt until 1923 when a historian by the name of Doane Robinson when the process of carving the faces of some of Americas most influential figures ually began. After the passage of the Mount Harney Bill, which allowed a monument to be carved into the mountain, a sculptor by the name of Gutzong Borglum eventually made his arrival and began the carving. Construction of Mount Rushmore was officially finished on the Halloween of 1941. Mount Rushmore is one of Americas most popular tourist attrions and attrs nearly 3 million tourists every year.\r

5. Seattle Space Needle- The Seattle Space needle is a time tested symbol of the city of Seattle, and has been since it was erected. Edward E. Carleson designed the Seattle Space Needle in 1962 with the intention of it being a representation of the future. The amazing structure was built to be able to withstand wind speeds of up to 200 MPH. Unfortunately, the needle has swayed some over the years due to tremors and major storms. Despite all of this, the Seattle Space Needle has persevered to remain an iconic symbol for the city of Seattle. 4. Great Wall of China- The Great Wall of China is absolutely one of, if not the most convincing testaments to the resilience and persistence of mankind. The Great Wall was first devised by Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C.). The purpose of the wall was to protect China from invading enemies, however it did not live up to its responsibility of doing so. Perhaps even more importantly, The Great Wall of China has served as a metaphor for the isolation of Chinese culture from the rest of the world, as well as the countrys unwavering and unfaltering resilience. The great Wall of China is roughly 2,000 miles long and is the only manmade structure visible from space.\r

3. Petra- The next amazing structure on our list is Petra. Initially called Raqmu, Petra is an ancient city located in the southern region of Jordan. This extremely beautiful city is of major historical importance and is also the most popular tourist attrion in Jordan. Petra was first constructed and established as long ago as 312 BC and served as the capital city of the Arab society, Nabatene. Petra is most known for its extremely early examples of rock-cut architecture. Existence of the ancient jordanian city was completely unknown to the entire western world until 1812, when is was revealed to the rest of the word by a Swiss explorer by the name of Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. Petra was also the subject of a Newdigate Prize-winning poem composed by John William Burgon, in which he described the city as a rose-red city half as old as time.\r

2. The Colosseum: The Colosseum, also sometimes referred to as the Flavian Brother is located in Rome, Italy. The structure was built using concrete and sand, and still holds the title of largest colosseum ever built. Actual construction of the Colosseum started In AD 72, under the rule of Emperor Vespasian and was completed in AD 80 by Emperor Titus, who was Vespasians successor. With an estimated maximum capacity of 80000 people, the Colosseum was used for various events such as gladiator matches, reenments of famous battles, hunting, and even executions. Despite the beating the Colosseum has taken since its construction due to earthquakes and vandals, it still holds as one of the most Iconic symbols of the Roman Empire. \r

1. Taj Mahal- Perhaps one of the most deserving of a spot on this list is the Taj Mahal. Located in southern bank of the Yamuna River in Agra, India, this amazing piece of architecture is essentially a massive mausoleum which was first conceived in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to harbor the remains of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of the Taj Mahal cost an estimated 52.8 billion rupees, which would equal approximately $827 million in United States currency. An initiative that took place from 2000-2007 and was called New7Wonders of the World ually declared the Taj Mahal the winner. This beautiful structure is a iconic to India, and is also one of the worlds most popular tourist attrions, with roughly 8 million people visiting the historic mausoleum every year.
