Ive eyeballed this little pond near my house for over a year since moving and wondered how the bass fishing would be if I ever decided to fish it. I always travel light when shoreline bass fishing, & with barely a couple hours to do some mystery pond bass fishing, I threw a couple bags of baits in my pockets and grabbed a couple rods to investigate. It turned out to have a couple bass swimming around in it! I offer up a few tips and techniques along the way as to how I attack a new pond from shore, so I hope this video entertains as well as helps a few learn a trick or two on how to bass fish a mystery pond of your own!\r

00:00all right guys Cornell with YouTube fishing vids welcome not a board but a
00:07long tiny little pond right by my house never fished it before got all the baby
00:13geese hanging out let's see what we can do this place is interesting I've been
00:17seeing this driving by it looks like it's got some potential I don't know
00:20what I'm dealing with here but I've got a couple rods on me I've got Senkos and
00:26flukes and a little couple popping hollow body frogs so let's see what we can do
00:31all right guys it doesn't get any easier than this when it comes to pond fishing
00:34for me I like to keep it simple I don't like to carry a big bag I don't like to
00:38carry much of anything if I don't have to so one little bag which was zoom flukes
00:43and still is zoom flukes but I've got nothing more but the little pearl white
00:46watermelon and inside the bag I've added a couple little treats I got my little
00:53baby hollow body frog that's a little live target baby frog I got the little
00:57lunker pocket frog and I've got one more frog in here I think it's a lunker city
01:02that's the popping popping lunker hunt in that little bluegill pattern so I got a
01:08couple really cool little baits in one little bag and of course in the other
01:11pocket can't come to a pond without these guys you know what I'm about to
01:15break out there they are get a little bag of Senkos so I got my Senkos a little
01:20sink effect a little subtle presentation I got some flukes that I can skim
01:25across the surface or let sink or dead stick do whatever I got to do and of
01:28course on the ponds the most fun part is getting yourself a little popping frog out
01:32there because you know there's frogs out here and I got cloud cover I got calm
01:35water so there's little popping frogs going on but for now I'm gonna throw on a
01:39fluke I'm gonna start it with a fluke and see if there's any active fish in here
01:42with a little bit of stained water you know what I'm gonna go pearl white get that
01:47all hooked up I've already got the one rod set up pretty darn easy a little six
01:53foot eight medium action rod with 12 pound test and a four-aught extra wide
02:00gap Galagatsu so let's go ahead and set that up get it on let's throw this thing
02:08out there and see what it can do a little change up from my normal routine I miss
02:16Florida and I miss those Florida golf course ponds I'm used to fishing
02:23here we go how much vegetation in here I thought it'd be a lot more weedy but

02:56hey guys there's bass in this little pond you ever drive by a pond and wonder
03:19I ain't wondering anymore it's a dink but that was my third cast so okay we got some fish in
03:25here that's great let's just see if there's anything bigger than the dink on a fluke
03:41oh that was a good one I saw that one he didn't get much of it though let's see if he comes back
03:49and gets it what I didn't show you guys is the fact that I brought my spinning rod also I bought
03:53my little Stratix CI4 and my Lou's medium action shaky head stick and I actually still have my
03:59shaky head on from the last time I was out on my local lake I'm going to throw this out there
04:04just missed a fish on that zoom fluke I'm going to go ahead and see if I can catch something
04:07on the bottom with this before I tie on a little popping frog
04:10all right guys here's the reason I don't like throwing shaky heads too much on ponds
04:31lots of muck generally ponds have really soft bottoms so Texas rigs a little bit better with
04:36that little you know bullet shaped weight those shaky heads pick up a lot of stuff they're really
04:40made for more hard bottom and that's why I'm taking it off and I'm putting on that popping
04:43frog that popping frog I think going to be the deal I just saw a fish pop and break on a little
04:48bluegill or something so we're going to go ahead and put it on before this sun pops out of the clouds
04:53and it doesn't give me as good an opportunity to throw top water so here it comes a little lunker hunt
04:58baby popping frog of course with a shaky head I've got a leader line of fluorocarbon
05:02and that fluorocarbon is going to be gone I'm going to get rid of that I'm going to go straight
05:07braid so it's going to be 15 pound test braid because it floats no stretch I don't want keys I want
05:13my cutters get those out all right so we're going to lose that leader line and that shaky head
05:22we're going to get a straight polymer knot to my popping frog
05:28yeah there's stuff there's stuff popping right now on the shore there's stuff moving up out of
05:35nowhere things are starting to happen so let's see if I can get this popping frog on before
05:39gets too hot and sunny they'll hit it all they'll hit it all day long though don't worry about that
05:47hot and sunny stuff I'm talking about guys they'll pop and frog there's weeds and vegetation
05:50have it tied on it's an awesome awesome way to get them to come up and a fun way to catch them
05:56so just a nice polymer knot
05:58you guys like to be stingy on your braid normally guys when you're doing that polymer knot you're
06:06supposed to pull that tag end but don't worry about it with braid pull that main line and save all that
06:11line if you want and then cinch it all the way down one more pull and you got a polymer knot without
06:18wasting too much braid off your spool generally want to pull that tag line on any kind of mono or
06:26fluorocarbon to avoid any burns in the main line so there you go
06:30popping frog time guys here we go all right let's see if they're happening
06:35okay guys nothing on the popping frog so they didn't want that might just not be the time of day
06:59might not be the type of frog but I'm going to go ahead and cut that off I'm going to turn this
07:02spinning rod into a Senko rod so I'm going to take that 10 pound test that I had on that shaky head
07:09and I'm going to go ahead and put a little leader line a 10 pound test fluorocarbon I'm going to go
07:13ahead and get my 4-0 extra wide gap and then throw on a Senko so hang in there with this water being
07:19kind of stained it's really not that big a deal to get this leader line fluorocarbon on here but
07:24I think every little bit helps so I'm going to go ahead and do it so 10 pound test fluorocarbon
07:31Albright so I'm going to do my Albright knot here if you guys ever seen this or not I'm trying to do
07:38this without boring you guys and hopefully I won't be too slow about it this is 15 pound test braid

08:15for good measure this is like I said 10 pound test 15 pound test braid it was any lighter if this was
08:21like 6 pound test on my drop shot rod my Albright is going to be 20 to 24 wraps on my 10 pound test
08:29braid I'll let it go real slow about it guys bring that in real slow even real slow don't let those
08:39loops get on top of each other you're going to get a real clean knot that way look forward a little bit
08:45hopefully you guys can see that but that's a really clean super strong knot I'll just trim the
08:55hinges one pull on the main line tag in one pull on the never too much guys just a little bit to get
09:09that night not cinched down there's a perfect Albright knot solidifying the connection between your braid and
09:16leader all right so trim it down and we'll tie on that
09:204 aught extra wide gap for a 5 inch Senko and we'll game on here in a second
09:29there it is all right so that's going to be your
09:334 aught it's not the super line one guys you know this rod system medium action and it's not a hundred
09:41percent straight braid it's got that little cushion effect with that 10 pound test fluorocarbon leader
09:46so with a little bit extra penetration with no worry of straightening out your hook those standard
09:52extra wide gaps are all you need the super lines have got a lot more mass to them and you'll lose a
09:59little penetration if you're using too light a rod or too light or or stretch your line all right
10:09keep those lines parallel perfect and wet it down just loop it around again guys this is where you
10:18want to pull on this is where you want to pull on your tag end on your palm or not remember that
10:23keep everything parallel as best you can pull on that tag and you lose a little line but you don't
10:27want to get that main line burnt and there you go all right 10 pound test to a 4 aught extra wide gap
10:3410 to 15 pound test main braid and my phone's ringing
10:39see if anybody important nope

10:48all right there we go all right guys so like i said i got two bags here in my
10:57pockets we're traveling light so there's the bag with a couple extra hooks some flukes and a couple
11:03popping frogs in one pocket in the next pocket how easy is that guys how like can you travel for pond
11:11fishing bag a green pumpkin five inch senkos little little cool dip on it get a little orange tip tail to
11:21it okay guys and here's your senko deal everybody knows this but maybe not if you all if there's
11:29few of you guys didn't know that there's your five inch senko texas rig i work the seam guys there's a
11:34little seam there it helps keep everything perfectly lined up so straight in the head just about to the
11:39point where that bends and come right out where that seam is and if you come out where that seam is
11:44you'll be able to go back in where that seam is and by doing that you've got everything perfectly
11:49perfectly straight so come out past that little bend and that's where you want it to come out
11:54so just line that up with your thumb go right back in at that seam and you're going to have
12:00everything perfectly lined up i come out virtually perpendicular a little bit off perpendicular
12:04back out the other seam on the other side and there's a perfectly straight senko and of course
12:11if there's a little bit of weeds skin it so there's your senko guys that's my routine for getting that
12:18going so time to get this thing out in that pond see if anything wants to bite here we go
12:25all right guys senko strikes again that'll do it for me nice little fish on my mystery pond i can't
12:45believe it i can believe it but how many how long have i been driving by this pond only to wonder and
12:53now to have it val val validated is where i'm trying to find here we go nice little fish in
12:58the pond come here awesome very cool all right guys so uh a little dink and not so bad a bass on
13:06this little mystery pond of mine near my house and only had like i said about an hour to fish so i got
13:10two little fish out of it had about four swipes at that fluke which tells me this is a nice little uh time
13:17passer if i ever got a chance to come down here for a couple minutes and i want to get a tug of the line
13:21there's bass in here so guys i'm glad you joined me glad you can uh learn about this little mystery
