How to Make a Bed for Action Figures & Other Toys\r
Today Im going to show you how to make the ultimate versatile king size bed for your ion figures and other toys. You can mix and match different styles of bases, headboards, and mattress colors with ease with this design. The measurements in this video will be scaled for 6 inch ion figures such as Marvel Legends. \r
\r
The materials youll need to make a king size bed are:\r
Cardboard \r
Plain old paper for making a template\r
Your choice of color of paper for covering the headboard and base\r
Ruler or t-square. I got my T-Square on Amazon at: \r
Low temperature glue gun\r
Glue sticks\r
Material to cover your mattress\r
Scissors. \r
Pencil\r
White Glue\r
Mod Podge\r
Paint Brush\r
Super Glue \r
1 mm thick Disk Magnets (I used 1 mm thick magnets in widths varying from 1 cm to 3 mm. Id recommend an inbetween size though at around 6mm wide.) I got my magnets on Ebay from China at: \r
\r
\r
Pedestal Base:\r
Cut pieces of cardboard 14.8 cm wide by 15.7 cm long. Glue cardboard together with white glue until it is roughly 3.7 cm tall. (or use 1/12 scale measurements: 14.2 cm wide x 15 cm long x 3.5 tall)\r
\r
Cover sides base with sheets of colored paper and seal with a layer of mod podge.\r
\r
\r
Mattress:\r
Cut pieces of cardboard 16.8 cm wide by 17.7 cm long. Glue cardboard together with white glue until it is roughly 1.3 cm tall. (or use 1/12 scale measurements: 16.1 cm wide x 16.9 cm long x 1.2 tall)\r
\r
If using a light color of fabric for mattress, cover mattress with white paper. Next, cut a piece of fabric 22 cm wide by 23 cm long (or for 1/12 scale: 21 cm x 22 cm). Use your low temperature glue gun to secure the fabric to the longer sides of the mattress first, which are 17.7 cm long. Then fold the top and bottom flaps on the shorter sides and trim any excess flaps if needed. Pick one of the shorter 16.8 cm sides of the mattress and super glue in two thin magnets 1 cm from the edge of the mattress. You could also do this before gluing down your flaps.\r
\r
If youre using a fabric that frays,I recommend brushing some mod podge on the edge of the fabric to stop it from fraying any more.\r
\r
Measure the central point of the top of your base and apply a magnet a few cm above it on both sides. Apply magnets to the same spots on the bottom of the mattress so that the magnets will touch each other when the bed is assembled.\r
\r
\r
\r
\r
Headboard:\r
Cut pieces of cardboard 16.8 cm wide by 11 cm tall. I glued two layers of cardboard together. (or use 1/12 scale measurements: 16.1 cm wide x 10.5 cm long)\r
\r
Cover headboard with sheets of colored paper and seal with a layer of mod podge.\r
\r
Measure a spot on your headboard that is 4 cm from the bottom and 1 cm from the left side and glue a magnet there and repeat with the right side.\r
\r
\r
\r
\r
Now you can assemble your bed together and have fun mixing and matching pieces. You can also make a wooden frame out of popsicle sticks and dowel rods for the beds base. Just make the length and width of the frame the same dimensions of your mattress and try to keep the frame at around 3.7 cm tall.\r

Originally I was going to show you how to make pillows and options for sheets and bedding but this video is long enough and if I keep going youll wake up in the morning with a crafting hangover. Ill be back with another video for those including how to make cute little charer throw pillows. One thing you can do to help me though is let me know in the comments if youd like some guidance on how to sew by hand. Im certainly no expert, but I can share what works for me if needed.\r
