McMahon is a Cork born singer songwriter with a unique storybook of trial, heartbreak and inspiration. It is a journey that is told through his songs as a young All-Ireland Champion gymnast, sponsored rollerblading champion and active 'free running', adrenaline fueled sportsman whose world came crashing down in a moment.
That moment was when McMahon survived a serious car accident in 2007. Months of rehabilitation were needed as a result of being thrown through the windscreen and cracking his skull. Following this tragic accident McMahon was left without a sense of smell and blind in one eye. As if this was not enough, he suffered heartbreak shortly afterwards as he and his partner of eight years also went their separate ways.
Of the experience McMahon says, " it was a very dark time in my life, I literally needed to learn to live again". He continued, "It was an equally stressful time for my family and closest friends". However unbeknown to McMahon this time in his life would serve to shape McMahon's future, in a positive way.
Songwriting would become cathartic. It was in many ways a measure of therapy and would facilitate McMahon seeing the bright side of the world around him, the world he was in.
In 2011 McMahon took an extended trip to Thailand and Australia with his best friend Darren, a trip the duo christened 'The days of our lives tour'. A mix up in flight arrangements resulted in an unplanned trip to Koh Phangan. Whilst on the Island the Cork natives met up with Terry McCabe. Following a few days in each other's company, Terry the MD of All In Recordings, a label out of Manchester extended an invitation to work with him and develop his music on the label.
The resulting album "Half Blind" produced by Tom Knott (Courteeners, Paul Weller, Paul Heaton) with Additional production by Andy Wright (Imelda May, Mick Hucknall, Eurythmics) and Gavin Goldberg (Imelda May, Mick Hucknall) is planned for release in 2013 and will be preceded by the release of McMahon's first single; the commercial outing "Deep Down". "Deep Down" represents throwbacks to rockabilly, pop and jazz all rolled into one unit. It's a foot stamping, get on the floor, addictive track and on first listen left this writer wanting to hear more.
A New chapter, a New Year and a fresh sound all the way from Cork via Manchester. We look forward to sharing more of McMahon's music with you throughout 2013.
