Ni Voz Ni Voto, also known by the acronym NvNv and often shortened to Nivoz, is a rock band from Lima, Peru. The band was formed in 1994 and has four members: Claudia Maurtua (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Walter Cobos (lead guitar), Kenneth Quiroz (bass) and Pepe Pinedo (drums). The band has achieved commercial success in the peruvian underground scene with the release of four studio albums; NvNv (2000), No Antisocial (2002), Limbo (2004) and Rockstar Rebelion (2012).
The stylistic variety and level of experimentation NvNv's music has made it difficult to describe, but NvNv has, for the most part, maintained a single style throughout their body of work. This style has variously been termed alternative metal, alternative rock, rock, hard rock and nu metal. Long story short, it is highly melodic with contemporary metal-rock lines with one of the best Latin American female voices. Also, acoustic performance has been of great importance for NvNv.
Their lyrics tell stories about people's inside conflicts related to accepting yourself as you are, depression, personal fights and arguments. Lyrics by Claudia (vocals) use to describe situations on 3rd parties mostly, while lyrics by Walter (lead guitar) are usually more personal.
NvNv music videos have been exposed to MTV Latin America through the length of the band's career; their latest album, "Rockstar Rebelion" was nominated for best album of 2012 for Peru's official newspaper El Comercio's "Luces" Awards, right after its release in October 2012.
