PRESENTED BY JAMES SANTER

Sculpture Music are a unique contemporary jazz/downtempo/world fusion duo from Exeter, Devon, consisting of Matt Calder (Halo, Hang, Guitars, Electronica, Hammer Dulcimer, Vocals) John Shaw (Double Bass, Piano, Vocals), and recently the line up has been augmented by Emily Howard (Guitars, Vocals) and Tom Rosenbloom (Drums)
Formed in 2013, the band was inspired by Matt's love of the Hang Drum, and more recently with the Halo, an instrument similar to the Hang but with a deeper, richer resonance.

The trance-like sonics of the Hang and Halo draws comparisons to African music and modern Jazz, with ambient and dance textures coming from the electronica elements, all firmly underpinned with a lyrical bass foundation. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Massive Attack, Steve Reich and Portishead, their debut album Minor Songs In Major Keys was released in February 2013, with the follow up EP 'Beneath The Waves' released spring 2014.

Both releases have had extensive radio play on Tom Robinsons BBC Radio 6 programmes and BBC Introducing. Highlight recent gigs include The Glastonbury Festival for 3 years running and supporting Manu Delago (Bjork).

"A fantastic noise. Great groove and atmosphere, wonderful playing"
Tom Robinson - Radio 6.

"Quite unique - massively impressed. Unlike anything else being produced in the South West in my opinion"
James Santer - BBC Introducing

"..threads the strands of jazz, folk, and world music together, displaying a style that’s entirely their own and impossible to classify..."
Jason Smith - Impose magazine.
