Karen Law has been writing songs for nearly 30 years. She began performing in the folk clubs of her native England, before moving to Australia, buying a caravan, and traveling round the country playing music. This nomadic life inspired her first CD ‘A Point on the Map’ released on Locrian Records in 1998 under her maiden name Karen Burton. In time she found a place to settle - her own point on the map - here in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. She married her long-term partner David, and continued playing music and writing songs while their three children were young. In fact, she was on a tour of folk festivals just before her eldest child Murray was born. So it is no surprise that he has turned out to be the musician that he is - at age 14 already a very important part of Karen’s band adding flamboyant guitar riffs and soaring trumpet to his mum’s upbeat folk songs. He also played on Karen’s recent CD ‘Asking Questions of Your Soul’, released last year.
Having been a solo performer for many years, Karen decided to create a band in 2014. She and Murray were joined by Rob Greenfield on bass, and Irish singer Jenny Fitzgibbon on harmony vocals. Together they make a beautifully tight sound, and the family connection is never far from the surface.
