James Cottriall is a singer / songwriter from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, and his upbringing in the Bard’s hometown is the root of his inspiration, writing his first songs at the age of 13. Whilst his career as a musician began at school it was as a young graduate at university in Vienna that his musical fate was sealed.
As a busker on the streets of Austria, James established a solid fan base and was ultimately spotted by Austria’s top record producer, Alexander Kahr. The pair immediately went into the studio to record James’ debut single, “Unbreakable”, which hit the number one spot in the Austrian ‘Most Requested Chart’ and spent over 6 months in the official Top 40.
He went on to score 9 further hits, totalling over 120 Austrian Top 40 charts and has performed over 700 shows in 15 countries, including festivals to audiences of over 80,000 and sharing the stage with the likes of Justin Bieber, Bryan Adams, Train and Taio Cruz. His profile is growing so quickly that Billboard USA featured James as an “up and coming artist to watch out for” and his You Tube channel is now well in excess of 2 million views.
Now James is set to release his newest single ‘The Devil’, probably Cottriall’s most personal song to date, written the day his car went up in flames on the way to a show in Berlin. He lost everything in the car, his favorite guitar, laptop, passport, merchandise. Somehow that was not even the worst part of that day, when calling his parents to tell them what happened, they informed him that his grandmother had just died. Dealing with it the only way he knows how to, he put pen to paper and ten minutes later “The Devil” was written.
