This winter serious skiers and snowboarders have been escaping from Europe en masse, fleeing abominable conditions in search of more powderific locales.

In this video Ueli Kestenholz chooses Japan. Hokkaido was where he won a bronze medal in the inaugural Giant Slalom snowboarding event in the 1998 Nagano winter Olympics - naturally, the place has good memories for him.

No peak to conquer, no set lines to ride, just a map, a rental car, his board, and deep, deep powder. It isn't all gravy though. Wind chill temps of -20 celsius mean that poor Ueli has to do a lot of moving to stay warm.
