Wons Phreely came armed with his electric guitar. A harmonica, a drum loop and his wit. He had the air of a gutsy street busker, yet the warmth and honesty to charm the crowd as he mused on reproduction, break ups and being hungover in Central Park. Vulnerable yet confident, intimate but accessible, the singer/songwriter’s instant likeability was engaging as he commented, “I don’t know when I’m supposed to finish playing” and a enamored spectator yelled back “Never!” You’re always welcome here Wons Phreely; such lack of crunk-funky originality is most refreshing.
