Eastern Kentucky singer/songwriter Derek Spencer, known for his story telling and cinematic lyrics, first appeared on the folk scene in 2009, playing under the moniker The Rooster’s Crow. His musical style combines elements of Appalachian and Americana. Fellow songsmith Justin Wells says of Spencer, “He isn't content with a single heart on his sleeve. There's a dozen or more, and his songs are barely concealed anger, or hurt, or at their brightest, love. Forget the instrumentation, or the verbiage: this is defiant music.”
The Rooster’s Crow’s debut album, ‘Winter’s Limbs’ was released on July 1st and Spencer will then expect to begin recording his debut solo album in late 2017.
