In July, scientists got their first glimpse at an immense Iceberg known as A-68 which weighed about a trillion tons and was bigger than the state of Delaware. The Iceberg, all 2,240 square miles was seen drifting away from Antarctica’s Larsen C ice shelf. As A-68 drifts through the sea it is splintering and forming more icebergs. Now that it is summer in Antarctica members of Operation IceBridge are able to get a closer look.
