French President François Hollande has arrived at the Le Mans circuit. He is the first President of the Republic to attend the “big race” in 43 years, and is the third to have graced the 24 Hour event with their presence. The last French President to visit the race was Pompidou. The President was welcomed by ACO president Pierre Fillon and FIA Secretary General Jean Todt. Mr Hollande will also take part in the start ceremony for the race.
