Synopsis:
In the 1970's when Calcutta was in the grip of bloodstained politics, Nayan too became a prey to this violent time. His calm and unperturbed life became upset. He started suffering from 'Insomnia'. Anger and hatred got mixed up in his flesh and blood.
Yet somewhere the past was within him. It was an insignia of his dreamlike desire. He could imitate the sounds of all birds. Only Shyama could recognise the voice. While following Shyama, Nayan met many others who were all suffering from empty mental disposition like him. They were Jagadish, a snake charmer, his son Sukul, Tara - daughter of Mona Thakur, on the other hand, there were Shyama, Shyama's father, mother and Arindam. When Tara committed suicide, Nayan in the middle of the night retreated to his Calcutta residence with a snake of Jagadish on his shoulder and an earthen bird made by Sukul in his pocket. His father was on the death-bed then. Nayan practiced with the snake whole night. Next morning, he succeeded to startle Shyama. He heard the name of Arindam in her lip. He was astonished.
After the cremation of his father, Nayan picked up Arindam to his own abode. But his anger, his hatred, his greed and above all of these his tendency to snatch everything by force became futile. Because his empty heart could not be filled-up. In the meantime, the snake developed its teeth filled up with poison. Nayan knew exactly how he can kiss a slumber. And he did it. He only conveyed Shyama his dreamlike desire. He said, it was fact that he could not achieve what he searched with all his life. But he was still in search of it. So Shyama should think he is still awake but this awakening is of different nature.
