It sounds like a scifi dream: take all of the data available in a thriving metropolitan city and use it to make a “digital twin" that can be used in research. that’s just what’s happening with Virtual Singapore. the new public-private partnership wants to take one of Asia’s most vibrant cities and recreate it as a dynamic 3D model. "“We realized that there is a gap between the tools that are classically available for urban planning and design," said Ingeborg Rocker, vice president of the project. the technology could have wildly diverse applications, from capturing pedestrian movement throughout a city to visualizing evacuation routes during an emergency.
