Dr. Soma Ghosh Singing Whispers Of Jasmine a poem written by Hon. Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam
  • 7 years ago
Song has been adapted from the Poem 'Whispers Of Jasmine', in which Jasmine is personified to depict emotions which are so vulnerable yet profound in meaning.

In this song, Dr. Kalam portrays how Jasmine flowers complained of being crushed under the feet of passersby and the pacifying response of the Jasmine tree to its flowers. The tree told them that it was the other way round, and everyone was around because of their beauty instead.

These thoughts had given birth to an English poem. The English version of the song has been composed by Vivek Prakash. Prakash Chandra Kaushik adapted it in Hindi and Soma herself set it to tune. Dr. Kalam's favourite ragas were selected for this composition - Kalavati, Bhairavi and Yaman.

Dr. Soma Ghosh is a classical singer from the Benaras gharana, a renowned music practitioner, player and performer. She is an exponent in Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet.
