Hey cruisers Im Sheri with Cruise tips TV. One of our subscribers suggested that we put together anon capsule wardrobes for cruising. I love fashion and planning my wardrobe for travel so it was an easy sell. But first, I had to figure out what the heck a capsule wardrobe was…if youve been tuning in to this channel for any length of time, you may have noticed that Im a bit of an over packer…not much of a minimalist. So,what IS a capsule wardrobe anyway? Our cruise fashion model Bianca and I are here to tell you.\r
A Capsule wardrobe is a collection of carefully selected essential items that can easily be interchanged. Videos and blogs about seasonal capsule wardrobes are all the rage and today we are introducing one for a 7 night, warm weather cruise vacation. This capsule should work for something like a Mexican riviera or Caribbean cruise, but mine is for a Mexican Riviera trip to the ports of Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.\r
Before we look at the clothing, I want to mention that there are Several fundamentals that most people adhere to when creating a capsule wardrobe - 1) the colors for the foundation pieces might be basic and neutral, like black, Gray or white. For this cruise, I chose black and white as my foundation colors, 2) pieces should be of high quality and last 3) they might be classic pieces that wont quickly go out of style.\r
So the idea here is that youll invest in fewer pieces, but of higher quality and timeless style. Simple enough, right? Heres where it gets tricky. As I mentioned, Capsule wardrobes are designed for the minimalist and I like ample, bright clothing for my cruises, so well see if I can rise to the challenge!\r
I created a few rules for myself that I felt were important. The first rule was that anything I bought for this capsule wardrobe had to be something that will be worn after the cruise, in every day life. I also decided that I would use high-quality items that were of lower-cost if I had a track record with those items standing the test of time, and youll see what I mean as we go into more detail soon. Lastly, I employed my secret weapon for light packing in general. I packed clothing that can be worn both for dinners and evenings around the ship, then again on shore or sea days. I did this because on cruises, I often feel like Im dressing up for the evening only to wear my clothes for a few hours then hang them back in the closet. So, youre going to see some repeat outfits here.
