Typhoon Talim: at least two dead as storm sweeps Japan

At least two people have been killed and three others are missing after a powerful storm hit Japan over the weekend.

Typhoon Talim made landfall on Sunday, battering the country’s southern most islands, with winds of around 160 kilometres per hour.

Nearly 40 other people were injured by the bad weather.

Heavy rainfall sparked widespread flooding forcing authorities to evacuate thousands of residents.

Hundreds of domestic flights were also grounded.

Although the storm has now been downgraded, weather warnings remain in place as Talim heads north, crossing a large area, including the capital Tokyo.
