SINGAPORE — Ten sailors were missing and five others injured after a U.S. warship collided with an oil tanker.

The USS John S. McCain destroyer collided with the Liberian-registered Alnic MC merchant ship east of the straits of Malacca and Singapore in the early hours of Monday.

The U.S. warship sustained damage to its aft port (rear left) side. The ship was flooding in several places, and had limited propulsion and electrical power, U.S. Navy sources told CNN.

Singapore scrambled ships and helicopters to begin a search and rescue mission.

The USS John McCain was sailing toward Singapore on its own power, according to the Guardian.
