Pertiwi Soup Kitchen: Serving the homeless

Pertiwi Soup Kitchen has been helping the homeless in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, since 2010.

They started providing for 200 homeless and have now expanded their operations to serve 800 people with the donations they receive from the public. Each pack of food costs RM5.

Pertiwi, which is a soup kitchen recognised by DBKL, is now located on Jalan Medan Tuanku dan Anjung Singgah.

The soup kitchen doesn't just provide food but also free medical services and haircuts to the homeless.

Pertiwi chairman, Munirah Abdul Hamid, said the soup kitchen is run by 30 volunteers, 20 of which are part-timers and the rest college students.
