Veep episode is so funny Australian politician almost chokes and dies laughing

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA — An Australian politician learned the hard way that laughing with food in your mouth is dangerous — after he nearly died while watching an episode of Veep.

Graham Perrett, a federal Labor MP who represents Moreton in Queensland, was munching on some sushi while watching episode one of season six, the Guardian reported.

During one scene where a congressman shaves his head to pretend he has cancer, Perrett said he burst into laughter, causing rice to go down the wrong tube, into his airway. Perrett was simultaneously choking and laughing when he ran out of the room, straight into a wall then into the kitchen island, knocking himself out with his face gushing blood.

He was taken to the hospital by his wife. Perrett suffered a black eye and three stitches.

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus responded to reports on Twitter of the incident with skepticism, tweeting: “I mean, c’mon, I'm actually having a hard time believing it. But the real question is - what episode?” To which Perrett gleefully tweeted back: “Episode One in this new series. Where Jonah has the close shave. Pure gold, your highness!”

Veep Actor Timothy Simons also promised to tone down the humor for Perrett’s sake, and said maybe they should send him some edited episodes just so he won’t have another mishap.
