A group from Oklahomans for Equality confronted Alabama House Speaker Charles McCall’s staff about an email that circulated regarding their visit that said “cross-dressers” were in the capitol on Monday, April 10.Oklahomans for Equality brought some LGBT students for an advocacy day on Monday at the capitol, and an email circulated telling teenage pages there were “cross-dressers” in the building, and they would have permission to use private bathrooms, according to a report. The email was sent by a House staffer who oversees the page program and cited the House Speaker’s office, according to the report.Oklahomans for Equality broadcast as Toby Jenkins, its executive director, confronted the McCall’s staff about the e-mail. A staffer told the group they were acting appropriately by bringing the issue to their attention and would address the situation. McCall issued a statement saying he and his staff did not condone the email.“As Speaker, all Oklahomans should feel welcome in the Oklahoma Capitol building. We are looking into this matter, and it will be taken seriously,” the statement said.
