Como ya hemos mencionado en otras ocasiones, incluso antes de que los grandes medios se atreviesen a hablar por primera vez de esta iniciativa, el Bilderberg Group fue fundado en 1954 por Joseph Retinger, fundador del Movimiento Europeo, antecedente directo de la Unión Europea, y el príncipe Bernardo de Holanda, con el supuesto fin de fomentar el entendimiento y fortalecer los lazos entre Europa y Estados Unidos.
