People in Saudi Arabia’s oil-rich Eastern Province have staged a protest to condemn the death of a man in a regime prison.
Residents in the city of Awamiyah chanted anti-regime slogans amid growing fury over the death of a Shia man who demonstrators say was tortured to death. Protesters held the ruling Al Saud regime responsible for the death and the continuing suppressive measures exercised by security forces in the kingdom. They also demanded the immediate release of all detainees and urged the Al Saud regime to end its crackdown on dissidents. Saudi Arabia’s predominantly Shia Eastern Province has been the scene of anti-regime demonstrations in recent years.
