Saab Salomon Avalanche Trophy 2008, 1st stage
The rain did not prevent the 1st stage for this new Saab Salomon Avalanche Trophy 2008 Tour. This event, now inescapable, for fourcross practice lunches a long season who will see the tour going in England, France, Sweden and Italy, providind all kind of MTB downhill practice with fourcross, downhill and marathon dowhill.
But the 1st stop was Lyon, and we will remember of a great show with world class riders, dirt action and cheerleaders, who said this event was not fun ?
After Saturday time trials, Sunday was only for show !!! 100 best MTB riders on Saturday fighted Sunday morning to finally be 32 qualified riders for the fourcross finals. Beetween quarter, semi and finals dirt action was provided by local riders reasoned by an over-excited crowd.
It’s Romain Saladini (FRA – Sunn team mate), local boy, who won the Sunday individual race with 1’08’’742, half second less than Thibault Ruffin or Quantin Derbier (FRA – planet X team) both from Lyon too. Top world pilot as David Vasquez (SPA – Lapierre powered by Saab Salomon team) and Phipli Polc (SLK – Kenda Tomac) kept their Energy for the fourcross finals on Sunday
afternoon. Some rain came on 12 just to wet the track and making it sleepy for the fourcross show, 4 by 4 on the same time was not enough !!! with straight eliminations for the 2 last of each runs, from 32, 4 french finalist were finally qualified for the great public
entertainment reasoned by some cheerleaders. At the end it’s the last year winner Romain Saladini (FRA – Sunn
rider) who won like the morning in front of Quantin Derbier, Aurélien Giordanengo, Fabien Cousinié and Benoit Colin, both french MTB riders.
