A new study found that after a car crash, prescription opioid painkillers like Oxycontin are no more effective for persistent pain than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. The lead author of the study, Francesca Beaudoin, said, "You'd think there would be a wealth of studies comparing our 'go-to' pain meds, but there just aren't." Beaudoin is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Brown University. She's also an emergency room doctor at Rhode Island Hospital.
