Man shoots black teenager dead, tells cops it’s ‘another piece of trash off the street’

CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA — A 62-year-old white man accused of shooting a black teenager dead earlier this week said he viewed the killing as the removal of “another piece of trash off the street.”
William Pulliam showed no remorse after he was arrested and charged with the murder of 15-year-old James Means, the Charleston Gazette-Mail reported, citing police.
The incident began on Monday night when Pulliam and Means bumped into each other outside a Dollar General Store in Charleston’s East End district. The man and the teenager argued, and Pulliam went into the store.
According to witnesses, Means was hanging around with two friends when Pulliam came back out. As Pulliam walked by, the two argued again before the older man crossed the street.
Means then followed Pulliam to continue the argument, but when he crossed the road, Pulliam pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and shot the teenager dead.
Pulliam then went to have dinner before dropping by the home of a female friend, according to police. The gun allegedly used in the killing was found at the woman’s house.
Pulliam admitted to the cops that he killed the teenager, saying, “The way I look at it, that’s another piece of trash off the street.”
Pulliam was not supposed to have a gun because of a prior conviction for domestic violence. The FBI is examining the case to determine whether it should be tried as a hate crime.
