Born and raised in London, Janset is an artist with a pure heart and unflinching ambition to rise to the top and make a lasting contribution to the scene that has been a constant source of inspiration since she was in her early teens – namely Britain’s ever fertile music scene. Her abilities as both a lyricist and performer put her at the forefront of the dubstep world in the late 2000s as one half of incendiary duo Stinkahbell, and she remains a potent force to this day. Currently embarking on a solo career, she is an adept pianist and producer, combining her dexterity on the keys with her songwriting and lyrical talent to become a one-woman army.
Since going solo, Janset has released two EPs. In 2013 she released the 'Retrospective' EP which included the massive track, 'Sorted It Out', teaming up with Hizzle Guy, P Money, Cyntific and Moody Boyz (Slave to Technology) and Niveau Zero with big remix support from Mad Decent artist 8Er$! . This was followed by ‘This Is It’ on Fatback Records in 2015 and the forthcoming ‘Keep It Humble’ EP, which features underground talents Kareful, Subroyce, Squarewave, Djinn and Hectic.
Previous releases, as part of Stinkahbell, have come via Sin City, Terrorhythm, Bullet Train and Scarlet Air, with more recent solo releases on Studio Rockers ('Slave 2 Technology'), Blackhole Recordings ('My Universe'), Chateau Bruyant Records ('So Dead') and Surfase Records ('Bubbles'). Bookings across Europe to countries such as Turkey, Belgium……….. and appearances at festivals including Glastonbury and The Big Chill feature among her list of outstanding achievements.
Besides her festival and club performances, Janset has taken part in several career-defining performances, including a Grime Symphony Orchestra with the BBC at Maida Vale Studios, along with Jammer, Merky Ace, Jammz, AJ Tracey and more. She has also become part of a collaborative project with a live hip hop band performing renditions of her tracks, taking the roof off Hootanannys in Brixton in late 2015, with several more shows around the capital since, including a packed out gig at Passing Clouds in Dalston.
Janset straddles a number of styles with ease, connecting the dots between jazz, hip hop, drum’n’bass and dubstep together with a range of experimental, genre-less sounds. Her penchant for the piano allows her to express her emotions directly through the keys and has led to a couple of soundtracks for short films; ‘Sinkhole’ in 2015 and ‘The Container’ in 2016. Her dalliances with leftfield experimentation means she now has a large collection of ambient, emotive pieces which are set to be released through her own label, Jubious Records.
Years of hard work and dedication to her craft, both on the mic and behind-the-scenes, have given Janset a steely determination and unwavering passion for what she does. A firm believer in the pervasive power of love and truth, her storytelling and lyrical playfulness work in tandem with her delicate piano playing and potent production skills.
The 27-year-old’s delivery juxtaposes vulnerability with cheeky wordplay and the unmistakable edge that can only come from growing up in London and her output represents a typical inner city upbringing; with diversity and a worldly nature clearly evident in her work.
With a clear view of where she wants to be and what she needs to do to get there, Janset is an unstoppable force of nature who represents what keeps British music several steps ahead of the rest of the world; diverse, multi-cultural, forward-thinking and, most important, honest and sincere. This is music from the soul of a woman who is about as real as they come and for that reason alone, she is bound to leave an enduring legacy…
