Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas fought off sexual harassment charges lodged by Anita Hill in the past; now, he is facing another allegation of sexual misconduct.
The claim is being reported in The National Law Journal which has profiled a woman named Moira Smith; she reportedly wrote about the incident on Facebook amidst news of Donald Trump’s lewd comments.
Her encounter with Thomas is said to have occurred at a dinner party in 1999 when she was 23-years old.
She reportedly stated in her post, “He groped me while I was setting the table, suggesting I should sit ‘right next to him.’”
He also allegedly “...grabbed and squeezed her on the buttocks several times.”
The National Law Journal notes that four people have since confirmed that she told them about the unwanted contact soon after it happened and, according to the piece, “They also remembered their own shock and inability to advise her about how to respond.”
Justice Thomas has denied the charge, stating, “This claim is preposterous and it never happened.”
Smith is currently an executive and general counsel for an energy company.
Part of the reason she says she came forward is to show her eight-year-old daughter that this kind of behavior is “not ok.”
