PlayStation 4 VR game lets players motorboat bikini-clad women

TOKYO — Japanese video games can sometimes be a bit too risque for Western audiences, but Dead or Alive 3 Extreme VR for the PS4 is something else entirely.

According to PlayStation Lifestyle, the game — developed by KOEI Tecmo — comes with several “paradise” options that allow gamers to take photos and interact with the models. Viral video of a Japanese demo of these features shows one fellow getting up close and personal with a bikini-clad female model in the game.

And while he looked to be enjoying it, many in the Western gaming media certainly aren’t.

Engadget writes that “Dead or Alive VR is basically sexual assault the game.” The USB Port describes the interactivity as a “harassment feature” that allows players to “molest female characters.” Polygon writes that women in the game are “powerless to do anything” and are “constructed to be violated.”

The game is only going to be released in Asia and won’t get an official Western release (and it’s easy to understand why).
