Typhoon Mindulle brings mayhem to Tokyo

Let’s hope it is not like this in Tokyo four years from now!

The host city of the next Summer Olympics was lashed by heavy rain and strong winds as Typhoon Mindulle swept in on Monday.

For locals and tourists alike it has caused mayhem.

“Well, I drove to Narita and there was quite a lot of flooding in the rural areas so I decided to get a train from there because it seemed safer,” said British holidaymaker Georgina Venman, speaking in the capital.

“I am here on a school trip and I was initially very worried about whether our plane would be able to land in Tokyo,” said Wataru Umeda, a student from Yamaguchi prefecture.

He was right to worry.

Travel chaos on the category one typhoon’s path has not only hit train services but air traffic too, with hundreds of domestic flights cancelled in the capital, wrecking the plans of thousands of passengers.

It may sound harmless – Mindulle is Korean for a type of dandelion – but the typhoon has already left a number of people injured as it roars through Japan.
