Georgia commemorated the eighth anniversary of its five-day war with South Ossetia on Monday (August 8).
Georgia’s prime minister laid a wreath at a memorial at the Mukhetgverdi Military Cemetery.
Georgia invaded South Ossetia on the night from August 7 to 8, 2008. Moscow intervened to defend South Ossetian civilians, many of whom held Russian passports, and to expel the Georgian forces.
Over a thousand people, including 72 Russian servicemen, lost their lives in the brief conflict.
South Ossetia also held events to pay tribute to those killed during the armed conflict.
