As a part of an immigrant family, Filiz Garip was no stranger to the experience of starting from scratch. Feeling dissatisfied with the path she had chosen, Garip turned her boundless optimism into a tool to help her face her fears and start on a new path. She has hasn’t looked back since. Garip’s journey teaches us to take things one step at a time and eventually your feet will find the right path.
Filiz Garip received her Ph.D. in Sociology and M.S.E. in Financial Engineering from Princeton University. She is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology at Harvard University, where she teaches courses on migration and economic sociology.
