Prof. Aytül Erçil is one of the pioneers in Turkey in the areas of computer vision and pattern recognition. She is the founding president of Turkish Pattern Analysis and Image Processing Society and is a member of the governing board for International Association of Pattern Recognition. She founded a lab at Bogazici University and later at Sabanci Universitiy, where she has been a faculty member since 2001. Erçil has done award-winning work directing many national and international projects. In 2006, Prof. Erçil founded Vistek, one of the first high tech companies in Turkey, which was acquired by ISRA Vision A.G. in 2013. She is currently the majority share holder and CEO of Vispera A.Ş. and a partner at Rebuslabs. She received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Mathematics in 1979 from Boğaziçi University and an M.S. and PhD in Applied Math from Brown University in 1980 and 1983 respectively
