Thousands of protesters marched to McDonald's Corp. headquarters outside of Chicago in heavy rain and thunderstorms. They were marching and rallying demanding a higher wage and a union ahead of the fast-food giant's annual shareholders' meeting. Earlier in the day, the protests began Wednesday with a strike at the Rock N Roll McDonald's in Chicago. The nationwide push for a $15 minimum wage began in 2012.In the first quarter, McDonald's reported $1.1 billion in profits on sales of $5.9 billion. Organizers also set up tents to spend the night until the shareholders' meeting Thursday, when they planned more demonstrations. Home care, child care and other low-wage workers join the fast-food workers for the demonstrations.
