Hi this is Pankhurie and you are watching me on movie talkies. Today I saw Omung Kumar’s Sarbjit aur is much-awaited film mein kitna dum, that I will let you know now.

The film is a biopic on slain Indian prisoner Sarbjit Singh, who spent 22-years in a Pakistani jail on false espionage charges. The film’s plot revolves around Sarbjit jo apne budhey pita, behan Dalbir, apni biwi sukhpreet aur do choti betiyon ke sath India Pakistan border ke paas Punjab k eek gaon mein rehtey hai.

One night, under the influence of alcohol, he strays across the border and is soon captured by military personnel, who accuse him of being Ranjeet, an Indian spy, responsible for bomb blast in Pakistani. Shuruat mein Sarbjit kehta hai ki wo begnah hai lekin mahino torture sehne ke baad wo pressure mein aakey bold et hai ki wo Ranjeet hai.

Meanwhile his sister is running pillar to post to find the whereabouts of her brother aur kuch 9 mahino baad jab Pakistan se sarbjit ki chitthi aati hai then she comes to know that he has been imprisoned across the border.

Dalbir fir Sarbjit ki rihai ke liye ek jung chedh deti hai aur PM se lekar Pakistani hukumat tak sab se apne bhai ki rihai ki darkhwast karti hai. Dalbir ki jung sarbjit ki rihai ke liye 23 saal chali aur aaj bhi wo begunaah kaidiyon ke haq ke liye ladh rahi hai.

Randeep Hooda has played the role of Sarbjit and he has given such a terrific and heart-rending performance that it will give you goosebumps. Unke body language aur look se leke unke dialogue delivery aur expressions tak everything looks so realistic that you will be left in awe of the actor.

Randeep has undergone drastic transformation for his role and he certainly deserves accolades for getting totally into the skin of his character. Apne parivaar se bichadhne ka dukh ya saalo baad jail mein unse milne ki khushi, randeep ne ye saarey emotion itney achey se pardey pe laye hai that you are bound to feel sympathetic towards the real Sarbjit.

Aishwarya has essayed the role of Sarbjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur and though the film is titled Sarbjit, Dalbir is the central character. Aishwarya has put in an earnest effort and her put her heart and soul into her character. While in some scenes she has given mind-blowing performances, in others she has gone overboard.

Jin scenes mein Ash ke dialogues nahi hai, she has totally killed it, lekin jin scenes mein hai wahan she faulters as dialogue delivery is not her forte and she tends to get screechy. Though she is not the perfect casting, she has tried and has given her best to her role.

Richa Chadda doesn’t have much screen space aur wo background mein yahan wahan dikhti rahi but she had one powerful scene and she nailed it. Darshan Kumar comes in the film’s second half and he has done an outstanding job too as Sarbjit’s sweet and enthusiastic lawyer.

Now where the film falters. Whiel the film rushes through the first half, the second half is very slow and has been dragged like no tomorrow. Characters or situations ko zada establish nahikia gaya hai. The screenplay is weak and has some unwarranted melodramatic scenes.

There are some scenes which are so unconvincing that yiou just wonder aisa sach mein hota hai kya. Jahan gadar mein Sunny deol Pakistan mein handpump nikal ke apni dhaak jamatey hai, wahin Aishwarya apni ek ungali aur awaz ke dam pe gun pakadh ke khadhey huey Pakistani soldiers ko, Pakistan mein, rafa dafa kar deti hai.

Film mein Randeep ke character ko chodh ke aur kisi character mein growth nazar nahi aati hai. Randeep transforms into a mere shadow of his former self but Richa looks as younf as she wa sin the first scene. Ash ages but her skin tone changes with every scene.

Omung Kumar has shot the film well but we wish he would have made it crisper and given more depth to his characters. He has paid a lot of attention to detail especially to the jail scenes and the look of Randeep’s character.

Lekin mujhe ek baat samajh mein nahi aai omung jab Randeep Sarabjit ka character play kar rahey hai, to apne Sarbjit ki actual pictures kyu use kari, it looks odd really… Audience ko pata hai that sarbjit is a real character you didnt need to thrust it down their throats.

The songs are nice but they were really not required. All in all Sarbjit is definitely a one time watch and it will move the audiences not because of its content but because it is based on a real life tragedy. I will give this film a rating of three and a half stars.
