Juncker urges Turkey to change anti-terror laws

2 years ago19 views

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warns Turkey that it could lose the visa-free access to Europe if Ankara fails to change its anti-terror laws.

This comes after the Turkish president refused to introduce amendments to the country’s anti-terror laws. Rejep Tayyip Erdogan threatened that the entire refugee deal between Turkey and the E-U may collapse if the bloc insists on the issue. The European Union has granted the Turkish citizens visa-free access in exchange for Ankara’s cooperation in keeping a part of refugee influx out of Europe. However, European leaders argue that Turkey is using its anti-terror laws to silence its domestic critics. E-U wants the laws changed as a part of the deal. Erdogan has reacted angrily and has rejected any negotiations on the matter.
