Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders emphasised his grassroots appeal during a speech in Salem, Oregon, on Tuesday at which he also sought to distance himself from Hillary Clinton. Shortly before his Salem speech, Sanders won the West Virginia primary but still faces an uphill battle against Clinton who boasts 1,716 pledged delegates of whom 523 are super delegates. Sanders counts 1,430 delegates including 39 super delegates. Oregon holds its primary on Tuesday, May 17.
