A court in Russia sentences a Ukrainian pilot to 22 years in jail over the deaths of two journalists in Ukraine’s volatile east in 20-14. The court found the pilot, Nadezhda Savchenko, guilty on all counts. Savchenko was captured in July 2014 for what Russia described as calling coordinates for shelling that killed two Russian journalists and several civilians. Upon hearing the guilty verdict, the pilot interrupted the judge and began to sing. She has denied the charges. The Ukrainian government has demanded her release. Kiev says she should be treated as a prisoner of war and freed under the terms of the truce agreed with pro-Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has offered to swap two Russian soldiers for the pilot.
