Rosetta – Black Bottom Jazz Band 2007
At this time, on December 31 2007 I like to take the opportunity to wish all Youtube and Daily Motion ( about 3.500.000 views since the start in February 2007 all together) a happy New Year.
I close this year with a tune which was part of a day which became my musical highlight for 2007.
Preparatons for a reunion had started already in March and finally in September we managed to come together and play a few tunes with members of our Black Bottom Jazz Band, a band which was started in 1952 in Bussum, the Netherlands, and now, some 55 years later came together again.
I particularily like to thank Rob Herwig, our pianist, to bring up all that energy to more or less lead us to the event and of course all the participating musicians. Thank you Rob from France, Arent Nieuwkamp clarinet and sop sax from Montreal, Canada and Eduard Rahusen trombone, Wim de Vries bass and Ari van Mensvoort banjo all still in the Netherlands. Also thank you Annelies, Flip, Kees and Rudy, all former members. Very special was also seeing some 30-40 friends/musicians who came to listen to us in the evening and the many who joined us for different session sets.
The full event was recorded on digital audio and video and special thanks go to the three engineers of Musicplant Kortenhoef and our new video friend Willem Quist who videotaped all day and worked afterwards many hours to match the mixed audio to the videotapes.
We had started at 11 am and rehearsed and recorded for about 6 hours. This was the last tune of the afternoon and some of us had over estimated the capacity of our chops. However it was a fantastic day.
